Lankawi is still very new but being rapidly developed as a tourist destination.

I spent a week there two months ago and liked it a lot, the scenery is amazing.

Western Food: My son is a little difficult to satisfy as he does not like 'Asian Foods'. For him there were two places close to heaven. 1, a restaurant called 'Domino', in Kuar Town, which caters for the large influx of German tourists. 2, There is a KFC outlet in the shopping center at Kuar Jetty.

Asian Food: Outside Kuar Town you are pretty much limited to the tourist hotels but there is a large range. For example, The Lankawi Vilage Resort near to your hotel offers a different style of food each evening. There are a number of beach cafes and small hotels on the beach in front of your hotel and the next one to the left, (a short walk along the beach). These offer a cheaper alternative.

New establishments are opening all the time.

The 'Older Lankawi', pre tourism, is still very visible, there is rice paddy on all the flat land and buffaloes are still used on the farms. It is very different to the neighbouring island of Penang which has a history of tourism going back to the last century with attractions/facilities to match.

Peter.
