Thank you netters for your suggestions on restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina.
92 Queen- This restaurant was fair-good. The entres were good:
fish aand vegetables cooked properly. Fairly crowed,
pleaseant ambiance. Forget the alligatyor appetizer(not fresh); it's not chicken. MaybeE Paul Prudhomme(sp) could salvage this meat source.
Deserts were OK. I'd go back.
Magnolia's-- The place wqs very crowed. Service was good. Ambiance..
..eh!. The food was fair but they're trying.
I might go back...depends.
Le Midi-- This is a very good Frech restaurant. It was virtually
empty which was initially off putting. But the++restaurant was by far the best my wife and I went to. Salads, entres and desert were all creative and excellent.. and generous (so un-French).
There's an extensive menu, prices moderate+. I'd go back....often!.
Gaulart and Maliclet
This is a French cafe, serving French style lunches. Good food.
I'd go back for lunch and maybe try dinner too. The cous-cous
looked interesting.

You missed some really good ones - try these the next time you visit: Beaumont, on Cumberland St., just off East Bay: new, excellent French bistro food in attractive setting; McCrady's, on Unity Alley, crowded, lively, very sophisticated grill-type American cuisine, run by same people as pricey haute cuisine Restaurant Million upstairs in same location - good, but pretty expense- account type for Charleston; Pinckney Cafe - wonderful, unusual food, very informal atmosphere, no reservations; Louis's Charleston Grill, in the shopping arcade at the Omni Hotel - very elegant, prize-winning low-country food by Louis Osteen, one of Charleston's best chefs. These are only a few of the newer good ones - 82 Queen is way over the hill, with Magnolia's not far behind, in my opinion. Carolina's is probably the best of the older ones....George in Charleston
No authority's even mention "Bowen's Island" previously described hereon as one of the best if not the best restaurant in Charleston. There's no place like their oyster roasting room.
I cannot resist but put my two cents in regarding the southern gem with some of the best restaurants on earth. So, here are my picks for best eats in Charleston (in no particular order): Poogan's Porch - great southern food, Sticky Fingers - across the Cooper River in Mt. Pleasant but if you can brave the bridge you will be rewarded with some of the best ribs in the world, Louis' Charleston Grill, Slightly North of Broad, Fannies - great place to go late night after the bars close (I prefer it to Alex's), Wild Wings for great buffalo wings and super music on Wednesday nights, the Trawler on Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant for super seafood (not to forget Ronnies, RB's or the Shem Creek Bar and Grill), 82 Queen, McGrady's, Your Place (a real dive but it has the best hamburgers in Charleston), and Blossom's. There are a bunch more but I can't spend all night on the computer. Mike From [email removed] Wed May 3 18:59:34 1995 Subject: Re: Charleston.eats To: [email removed] (Robin B.
