I just got back from Charleston and Savannah, and I have to tell you, just about every meal we had in Savannah was better than every meal we had in Charleston. There were a couple of places I would recommend though: 82 Queen. I had the barbecued shrimp and grits with cheddar cheese, pretty good. The setting is nice though, see if you can sit in the courtyard. Poogan's Porch (on the same block as 82 Queen). More lowcountry stuff. Not bad. Casual: Hyman's seafood on meeting street. This place was absolutely packed for lunch. Lots of inexpensive seafood. (I had the oyster poor boy, and really enjoyed it). Good luck.

For lunch try AW Shucks near the slave market (no slaves were sold there they just went shopping for their masters). If you like ribs take a little trip to Mt. Pleasant & try Sticky fingers rest. just over the bridge on the right.
Be sure to try Slightly North of Broad, an excellent nouveau-low-country restraurant. I've been to Charleston severeal times, and consider this to be the most interesting of many excellent restaurants. It's both innovative and authentic. And if you're by yourself it's handy and fun to sit at the counter looking right into the open kitchen.
Sticky Fingers is great! So is TBonz down the street if you like even more BBQ! Cool selection of T-shirts too.
