Not that Al Forno in Providence, RI needs any more publicity.....but, they just received listing in a Restaurant trade publication as one of the 10 best (casual) restaurants in the WORLD. Yes, I said the world. Believe it or not, people from Boston actually drive to Providence to go to this place. The wood grilled pizza is incredible. A major league place !!! John G./Boston

Al Forno/Providence
Dear John, I agree! When my husband and I used to live in Boston, we'd drive to Providence for dinner at Al Forno -- our favorites included the grilled pizza to start, flank steak and/or pasta entrees, and the homemade cookie plate for dessert! We'd sometimes spend the night at one of the "teaching hotels" run by kids from Johnson & Wales (who were getting college credit for all their "Yes, ma'am"s and "Right away, Sir"s) so we didn't have to make the 45-minute drive back to Boston -- if that doesn't say a lot about George and Johanne's cooking, I don't know what does!
