Green Forest Churrascaria. We ate there two weeks ago. I thought it was pretty good. Someone wrote: > the Brizilian, all you can eat buffet that was discussed on here > a while back. What was the name of ?
My husband and I went to Green Forest (the all-you-can-eat Brazilian steak house) on Saturday night (with another couple). I've been raving about it to everyone. Even the salad bar was exceptional. I highly recommend it. Just take exit 15 (Penn Hills) from the parkway, turn right at the first light, and it's right there on your left. ************************** Melissa Cicozi Assistant Head School of Design Carnegie Mellon University MMC 110 Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3890 Phone: 412-268-2828 Fax: 412-268-3088 www.cmu.edu/cfa/design
Hmmm... four of us went to Green Forest this past Saturday. It was fun, and an experience, but we won't be going back. There was a great variety of dishes, but they weren't reliable. That is, some were totally bland (the feijoada - a black bean & meat dish) while others were inedibly salty (the adjoining brown beans dish). The salad bar was very nice, fresh fruit, delicious marinated green peppers, some nice baby greens including watercress and arugula, overall a good selection. The "smoked salmon" strips were inedibly salty (I know they're SUPPOSED to be SOMEWHAT salty!). The hot foods bar was irregular. (e.g. the beans). The starchy things (potatos, yucca, bananas) were all great (what starch isn't when deep fried). The salmon was deep fried (!) and so-so... The skewered meat was all excellent - nicely cooked, nicely seasoned, including salt. The shrimp were pretty dry. The chicken, turkey in bacon, beef (cubes & sliced top round), lamb & pork were all done just right. I'm no lightwieght, but I cut each of my meat servings in half, and by the time I tried one of everything, I was full. All those lonesome halves, waiting to be eaten. Kinda wasteful. Ambiance was virtually non-existent. The highly-touted waterfall is in a corner behind the bar & dance floor. We were in the second room, which had no decor at all (AT ALL!) The waiter was friendly, but scarce, it took a long time to get our check, and what else did he do for us except explain the way things worked, open our wine, and send us to the buffet. Wine was priced at 3X state store price (normal for Pittsburgh, but a lessening ternd seems to be happening in the past few years, thank the lord). None was all that great - OK, not great. Dessert costs extra; looked good, but we were stuffed. Looking over this review, it might seem like "what is she complaining about, for $20", but I guess I like to have a little more reliability AND ambiance for my dining dollar. I can get variety at China Buffet King for $10 (hey, the green beans there are great!) Christine Christine Berliner [email removed]

Who eats beans when you need to save room for all that fantastically grilled meat? Maybe they were bland, but our table would have never known. > The salad bar was very nice, fresh fruit, delicious marinated green > peppers, some nice baby greens including watercress and arugula, overall a > good selection. I agree the smoked salmon was salty - one person at our table loved it that way though. > The hot foods bar was irregular. (e.g. the beans). Our table thought the salmon was very interesting and went back for seconds - I guess it's a matter of taste. > The skewered meat was all excellent - nicely cooked, nicely seasoned, > including salt. True, it's hard to taste everything without exploding - we occasionally split portions between two people at our table. > Ambiance was virtually non-existent. Yes, the ambiance is a big zero, but we were much more interested in eating and socializing than the atmosphere - I would never go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant for a romantic date anyway! > > Wine was priced at 3X state store price (normal for Pittsburgh, but a > lessening ternd seems to be happening in the past few years, thank the > lord). I thought $20 was a bargain - once you've had 2 servings of prime rib, you've paid for the meal, and the steak was much better than Ruth Chris...
