what's the new restaurant where Cafe Sofia used to be?
Excerpts from netnews.pgh.food: 5-Nov-98 what's the new restaurant w.. by "Kate Connally"@pitt.edu > Does anyone know the name of the new restaurant on Forbes near > the > Panther Hollow bridge where Cafe Sofia used to be? One of them had gone there for lunch and liked it a lot, but they have a lunch menu (significantly lower prices) and a dinner menu (substantially higher). I had the seafood pasta (I think it was the special of the day) at (I think) $15.95. Came w/ a salad. The salad was a decent size, and the pasta was a generous serving with a pretty high concentration of a variety of seafood (scallops, shrimp, muscles, calamari). While the food was definately good, it and the service/atmosphere didn't warrant $15.95 (IMHO). Also, make sure you bring some cash, because they don't take plastic, and I'm not sure about checks.

I think it's Il E. wrote about it in the November Pittsburgh magazine. I don't recall his exact comments but basically he said the place was worth watching/trying but they still had some problems to work out. I think he advised limiting yourself to certain types of dishes they did well, but that may just be my take on it. You'd want to read the review to be sure.
I had lunch there with a friend - and would not recommend it after my experience. We just wanted a light lunch so both of us ordered salads - my was fresh mozarella with basil and tomatoes and my friend had grilled vegies. Tomato/mozarella consisted from about 2 balls of fresh mozarella (small ones) and about 2 cherry tomatoes - all cut up and garnished with 2 leaves of basil - way too small portion even for a small lunch. It was about $7. My friend's portion was more acceptable but still not worth the price. The service was not the best either. To wrap it up - I will not be back there, that's sure thing...
