SOUTH SIDE LUNCHES

I am interested in starting a thread containing
reviews/suggestions/comments of South Side lunches. I work in South
Side, only get half an hour for lunch and am on a very tight budget.
For my purpose then the restaurant must be within five minutes
(walking or driving ) distance from the Birmingham Bridge area, the
food must be ready within five minutes of arrival and the total cost
no more than five dollars (including tip when appropriate).

Of course, comments/suggestions/reviews of restaurants that do
not meet that criteria would be welcomed as well.

The firs restaurant I'd like to review is *Muffy's Off Carson*
Muffy's is located in the 2000 block of Sarah St., two blocks south of
E.Carson St. Muffy's features daily lunch specials for $2.95, calling
ahead is recommended but does not, unfortunately, guarantee that your
selectyion will be ready when you get there. *Most* of the time this
is not a problem, but there have been times when a call an hour in
advance failed to make a difference one way or another.
The lunches themselves are very good, most specials include a
generous portion of home-cut french fries, and all specials include a
soft drink of your choice. Good value for $2.95!

             Here is a list of their daily specials;

MONDAY: cheeseburger and Fries or Italian hoagie and fries.

............The cheeseburger is very large, I'd guess more than a half
pound, served with choice of condiments. The hoagie is good too, about
eight inches long with at least three different kinds of meat and
 cheese.

TUESDAY: Stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy OR Steak
 hoagie and fries.
..........This is the best day of the week at Muffy's. The chicken is
highly recommended, generous portions of stuffing and potatoes
compliment the grenade sized breast. The steak hoagie is a good choice
as well Real steak(not steakums) on the same eight inch bun.

WEDNESDAY: Cajun Blackened Steak hoagie and fries OR burritos
..........In all honesty, I'm not too crazy about either one of these.
The cajun steak sounds a lot better than it is and i havent had the
guts to try the burritos. On wednesdays I'd recommend going off the
 board Alex.

THURSDAY: Roast Beef sandwhich and fries OR ham bbq and fries.
........The roast beef is served with homemade gravy ...thick sliced
beef....very good. I am not a ham bbq person but my co workers insist
that its very good as well.

FRIDAY: Fish sandwich and fries OR mexican Pizza.
For some reason many bars try to outdo each other by attempting tomake
a fish sandwich that is larger than the next one....Muffys is no
exception....It's HUGE....twice as much than is really necessary.
For some ungodly reason, they server the usual heap of fries with it.
Typical bar room fare in quality. The mexican pizza is good too, its
kind of like an open faced meatless taco. the sauce is a tad on the
 bitter side.

So there it is, my first installment in what I hope to be
 a long series.
