I had a *surprising* dinner last night at the Sewickley Hotel (which is
right in the village of Sewickley). From the outside, the "hotel" (it
really is only a restaurant) is almost invisible. Inside, the atmosphere
is very pub-like (there's a wall-length bar on the right side of the
restaurant) and so I expected the menu to be the traditional pub
menu (burgers, steak salad, etc).
Instead, the menu featured many hardwood-grilled items with lavish attention
to interesting ingredients (i.e., the pasta side dish for the day was
orrechiette pasta with a herbed tomato sauce including red cherry peppers).
I had the grilled salmon with the herbed butter. This is the only way that
I care for salmon--"crunchy" on the outside and very tender on the inside.
The person I was with had the chicken basil linguini, a double breast of
chicken pan fried and served over linguini with a fresh tomato basil sauce.
Entrees came with a great side salad (no bag o' lettuce for these folks),
bread, and a vegetable or pasta side. Dinner for two, with wine and tip,
came to around $50.
The Sewickley Hotel is at 509 Beaver (turn right onto Broad St. from
Ohio River Blvd, then turn right onto Beaver at the 2nd light). The
phone is 741-9457. Reservations are encouraged.

Sewickley Hotel
Excerpts from Beth [email removed] > I had a *surprising* dinner last night at the Sewickley Hotel (which is > right in the village of Sewickley). Before she started working Saturdays, my wife and I used to trek out to Sewickley - she grew up there, so there were a few places she still liked to frequent. We used to try to time it so that we could have lunch at The Hotel. I don't think I've ever had a dinner there, but the lunches were fantastic. And, yes, much more than yer ordinary bar food. They had a red snapper soup that would warm you up on the coldest day. I never had anything I didn't like there. Maybe her reason for going to S'wick were to visit the Frame Shop and Natasha's, but I went on the chance that we'd get lunch at the Hotel. (Or maybe scones at the bakery.) > The Sewickley Hotel is at 509 Beaver (turn right onto Broad St. from > Ohio River Blvd, then turn right onto Beaver at the 2nd light). The > phone is 741-9457. Reservations are encouraged. No reservations needed for lunch. Sewickley's only about 30 minutes away from the CMU area via Rt 65. Probably fewer if you go up 279 and get off at Camp Horne Road. ken # ken mohnkern # multimedia specialist & graphic artist # # the multimedia lab # the robotics institute # # carnegie mellon university # pittsburgh pa # # http://128.2.250.50/mohnkern/mohnkern.html # # "we are hope despite the times" #
