Just tried a new Carribean take-out restaurant on Second Avenue in Hazelwood
and its two thumbs up Jamaican food. The vegetarian curry made to order was
superb. The owner/cook added a homemade Scotch Bonnet pepper sauce to my taste
as I waited. The rice and beans reminded me of Belize. The restaurant's cook
Marie Amkron used to own the Island Cove Restaurant on Forbes Avenue in
Squirrel Hill. The curry was very flavorful and fragrant. Marie takes great
pain to use only authentic ingredients so the taste was not "adjusted" to meet
Pittsburgh tastes by substituting less expensive ingredients and "just adding
sugar" a common flaw I find in many of the Thai restaurants around town.

The restaurant is near the Integra Bank on Second Avenue near Hazelwood Ave.
You'll know it when you see the scaffolding. I think its take-out only at
present call 422-5070 for particulars. (I found out about it from a bright
yellow flyer.) The menu items seem to fall in the $6-$10 range.
