Go to the REading Terminal Market at 12th & Arch--there's about 25 different ethnic food places, from Amish to German to Spanish to Pizza to the Down Home Diner (Southern country food). Nearby in Chinatown Joe's Peking Duck is good food and not fancy--really just wander along Arch STreet or Race st. to 11-9th streets and you'll see lots of places. Even though it's best known for it's beers, I took my brother, sister-in-law & 3-year-old nephew to Dock Street on 18th at Cherry--French brasserie food, quite good and the booths are good for kids. If you have particularly ethnic food preferences, let me know--there's almost everything in Philly, from Ethiopian to Burmese to Portuguese to Persian.

The Reading Terminal was a good suggestion for lunch. For Chinese: Golden Pond in Chinatown. BYO Greek/Turkish/Mediterranean: Dardenelles on Chestnut just before 2nd. BYO Eclectic: Carolina's on 20th & Rittenhouse Square Coffee: La Colombe on 19th at Rittenhouse Square...be warned, it's smoky. If you can't put up with it go to the Tuscany Cafe on Rittenhouse Sq. The coffee's not as good, but you'll breather better. Seafood: BLTS Cobblefish on Shurr's Lane in Manyunk. BYO Seafood: Dmitri's on 3rd at Catherine. Leaning towards Greek. Wonderful grilled octopus & great mussels. BYO Italian: Solo Mio 3rd & Arch(?) BYO None of these places are what I'd call "joints", but all are reasonably priced & are fine with kids. And don't miss one of our famous cheesesteaks! Try Pat's in S. Philly, Jim's on South Street, Geno's across the street from Pat's or just ask anyone on the street who looks friendly to direct you to their favorite. Have fun.
