In search of wonderful pizza.... please fill me in on your
 favorites....

Currently, I travel all the way to Yolanda's in Monaca (Beaver County)
to get their sausage Chicago style. YUM YUM.
Only problem with them is they are closed on Monday and take CASH
only, no checks or CC. For you smokers, the whole place is
non-smoking.... None of this bothers me as the pizza is wonderful.

So where else is there wonderful pizza? Come on, fess up, and quit
 hording it all for yourself.

Mineo's in Squirrel Hill. Absolutely the best!

Two of the best pizza places I've found anywhere are in Mt. Lebanon:
Caruso's (on Washington Street) and Bado's (on Beverly Ave.).

I like Caruso's slightly more, though I eat at Bado's more often because a)
they are almost as good, b) they deliver, and c) they have a large
restaurant area (Caruso's has a couple of booths and is mostly take out).
The last two points are important, since if I'm eating out I want room in
the reastaurant and if I'm eating at home I'm usually willing to pay a
couple of bucks to not have to hop in the car. Bado's also has more
interesting topics. Caruso's has all the standards; Bado's has those plus
things like eggplant (which my daughter likes on her pizza).

Where would conversation be, if we were not allowed to exchange
our minds freely and to abuse our neighbours from time to time?

I love the pizza at the Church Brew Works on Liberty Avenue in
Lawrenceville. It's wood-fired, I believe, and they have all sorts of
different gourmet types, but at good prices. My personal favorite is
the chicken, almond, and sun-dried tomato for like $11.

Personally, I think Aiello's, just up the street, is a hair
better. Mineo's tends to be just a bit greasy for my tastes. That being
said, it's like the Joe DiMaggio/Ted Williams argument -- they both make a
 great pizza...

I grew up in Forest Hills only minutes away from Vincent's Pizza. I find
that, even today, I get cravings for his distinctive pizza and simply
have to drive over there and get one. Then the old reservations kick
in...Are those mushrooms really fresh? Is Vinnie dropping cigar ashes
into the crust? Does he ever wash that flour out of his hair? Then I
proceed to enjoy the pizza, which is very good but (for me anyway) not
something I could eat on a regular basis. I stay away for a couple of
years until the next craving sets in. And so it goes.

My current fave is a tiny local chain called Country Style Specialty
Shoppes. They make fantastic pizza, plus something they call round-up
sandwiches and dessert pizzas. Everything is served on their special
flatbread, the best I have ever tasted. The sauce and fillings are also
excellent. They have supposedly won quite a few awards for their
products. The only problem is, each shop is a little off the beaten
track. One is in Bridgeville and the other in Elizabeth Township (plus
one in Canonsburg, I believe). If you find yourself in these areas you
should definitely check it out. If you are a big fan of flatbread it's
 worth the drive. --CCV

Country Style Specialty Shoppe (makers of great flatbread pizza and
other delicious flatbread creations) is at 536 Dewey Ave. in
Bridgeville. I'd call for exact directions (412) 221-9595 but basically
(if memory serves) you follow the main business street in Bridgeville
(Rt. 50) to Station St. to Dewey.
