---------------------- PITTSBURGH -------------------------------------- (As of 9/21/93) I've been putting together a list of good restaurants for selected areas of the country (those that I visit regularly) with an emphasis on flavor, quality & value, rather than ambience & service. Either I've had a very good meal there, or more likely, someone else has recommended it highly. Note that most of the comments in the list are not mine, but are from other people who've taken the time to write up something about their dining experience. If you have additions, corrections, comments, or suggestions for removal, let me know at [email removed] or, even better, post them to the rec.food.restaurants Usenet newsgroup. I'm especially interested in hearing about particular dishes to get or avoid at specific restaurants, so I can include that information in this list, which I will post every few months to rec.food.restaurants Pittsburgh -- by Cuisine ======================== Cafe Sam (South Side) -- ? I'll mention only the places where I have something to add or correct. Which doesn't mean that I've necessarily eaten there, just that I know something useful about it. > Pittsburgh -- by Cuisine > Cafe Sam (South Side) -- ? Actually located on Shadyside/Bloomfield border, near Shadyside Hospital. Cuisine is 'eclectic' and seasonal. Last meal there included a nice pork loin with blueberries. > Island Cove (?) -- Carribean Is this the one on Broad St. in East Liberty? Jamaican. > Le Pommier (South Side) -- Continental Nope, it's pretty much strictly French provincial. Used to have a wine list that was exclusively French. Haven't been there for some time. > Bravo France (Downtown) -- French That's 'Bravo Franco,' named for its owner. And he's Italian. > La Foret (East End) -- French/California Closed. The owners now run a gourmet shop in Shadyside (on Ellsworth, adjacent to the Italian Oven). > Susie's (Squirrel Hill) -- Greek And downtown. Very nice Greek restaurant. > Italian Oven (?) -- Italian Pizza A regional chain of low-priced pizza/Italian restaurants. There must be at least half a dozen in and around Pittsburgh by now. > Pittsburgh -- in Alphabetical Order > Cafe Sam (South Side) -- ? > (very good seafood, but expensive) I can't comment on the seafood. I don't think Cafe Sam is all *that* expensive. Whoever wrote the above is probably thinking of some other restaurant, not Cafe Sam.
