Well, swinging things back around to food and restaurants I'd like to
recommend Phnom Penh restaurant at 410 first avenue if you happen to
be in the downtown area (I'm not sure it's worth a special trip
unless you just feel like it).

My wife and I had lunch there on Columbus day. The service was pretty
slow but I overheard the only waiter working the place saying she hadn't
expected it to be so busy on a holiday. They have a chinese half
of the menu which we ignored and a cambodian half.

Lunch specials are served from 11:00am to 4:00pm and inlucde your
choice of wonton, hot & sour, or chicken-lemongrass soup, a spring
roll, and steamed or fried rice. I had chicken-lemongrass and my
wife had the wonton. Both were okay..not something to rave about.
The sprinroll was pretty good but not fantastic. However the entrees
 we had were very nice.

#c6 Moarn Chha Kreung $5.25 (including extras as above)

chicken with hot and spicy lemongrass sauce, sauteed with vegetables

 #n1
Red or Green curry noodle, choice of chicken ($5.25), beef ($5.50)
or shrimp ($5.95). (I had green curry with shrimp)

This is Cambodian rice noodles with potato, onion, carrot, bamboo
shoots, ground peanuts, cocnut milk, and a curry sauce.

They were both very enjoyable and nicely spicy.
If you are looking for a new place for
lunch downtown you might consider this place. It's on First Ave, just
east of Mon Valley Travel on Smithfield street.

I was in the strip last week and tried Peppi's (after having read a good review
of it in In Pittsburgh). I was very impressed. I had a cheese steak hoagie
which was excellent (served on a Mancini's bun). The fresh french fries were
pretty good for only "once-fried" fries (as opposed to being twice-fried which
is the correct way to do it). The prices were great! Very inexpensive and the
 quality and quantity were great.

I discovered a new place, Labad's, a middle eastern grocery and restaurant.
I don't get down to that end of the strip often enough. They've been there
almost 2 years apparently, since right after my last trip to that end of the
strip!. Has anyone tried them? Their pastries looked great but I already had
some much stuff at home that I didn't buy anything sweet, just got some sumac
for some Persian dishes I want to try.

Also discovered a new winery, Glade's Pike, in Somerset. They buy their juice
from vineyards in the Erie area but make all the wines there. The wines were
very good for the most part. They had 2 hybrid varieties (sorry, my mind is a
blank at the moment) and several native varieties, plus 2 apple wines.

Had a good (but I can't really say great) meal at La Filipiniana a couple of
weeks ago. I had the kare kare (beef stew with banana hearts). I had an
appetizer empanadita which is pretty much like an empanada and the spring roll
which was very tiny and not very impressive. The empanadita was good though.
