It depends on where you are in the New Castle area. The Starwood Inn has good food of a local pub/restaurant fare, and isn't too bad. Medure's is good for Italian, though maybe a bit fancy. There's plenty along Route 18 just north of downtown, though it's been a while since I've been up that way. If you feel like a drive northeast, there's the Springfields' restaurants (http://www.springfields.com/) including the Iron Bridge, Springfield Grille, and Rachel's Roadhouse toward the Grove City outlet malls. About 20 minutes northwest to Sharon and you pick up Combine Bros. (Italian) and Quaker Steak and Lube. South 15 minutes to Ellwood City and there's Bala's and Shakespeare's which are new and really good. Vinny's Italian Restaurant in town would be about perfect. On the way into Ellwood is Lando's - fried foods and such. (And between New Castle and Ellwood City is Forbush Drive Inn, an ice cream stand which is heavenly). The P.O. lunch has a good example of the local style of chili dog, (chili burgers ,and chili fries as well). Mary's has excellent Middle Eastern food. In my home town Elwood City (10 miles south), great chili dogs, burgers, and fries can be had at the infamous PeeWee Lunch. Better still is Red Hots.
