Cliffside's nice...straightforward, intimate. Steaks, seafood, etc.
Best steak tartar in the city. Very good piano players several nights a
 week.

I like Tin Angel the best. Haven't been to Lamont, but haven't heard
very nice things, either. Christophers is overrated, especially
 considering their tacky decor.

For a real treat stay away from the "view is more important than food"
restaurants and head out to Hyeholde. Outstanding food and a great
 atmosphere.

Grandview Saloon is also very good, and not too expensive. It's less
formal than some of the other places. Good pasta.

I love the Grandview--it's a great place to have a draft Sam Adams
and contemplate the mud-filled fountain at the point (seriously,
it's a great view when the fountain is running.

I'll simply add that it is MUCH less formal than, for example, Lamont's.
I guess you *could* wear a suit to the Grandview, but you also could
 wear jeans.

If you can pull yourself away from the view...sneak away to the back
streets, and find Portobella (o?) on Southern Ave. Amazing food...no
liquor licence, but there is a state store w/i walking distance. Of
course, the 'shrooms are featured, and you get to pick the one that you
want to eat - with none of the guilt of doing the same with a lobster! I
had manicotti, and rather than getting the same old manufactured tubes, it
 was hand rolled pasta...exquisite!
