Mineo's

Yes, mineo's is the first great pizza joints of the burgh and still is.
As far as their other on the menu items go, I've never tried them.
They have been compared equality to New Yorks' above average pizza joints,
 which I'll agree.

Now, the cousins of mineo's, aiello's a few doors up the street, their pizza
is equal, but their cheese has less oil.

Furthermore, the differences in oven baked or conveyer belt pizzas and
canned or homemade sauces, the secret to any great pizza has always been the
difference in the type of oils used in the cheese that they buy .

P.S. Mineo's has another place up in Greentree also and they don't use the
 same cheese.

I've been to Pi once...it was definitely good, but not stellar, especially
for the price. It's fairly yuppified pizza, so traditionalists may not be
happy. I got the feeling I was paying as much for the trendy
decor as for the food itself. It reminded me of a slightly more upscale
California Pizza Kitchen, or (not that this is going to help much)
Oregano's Woodfired Pizza in Los Altos. I plan on going back at some
point, but I don't feel inclined to eat there often.

 Best

Mineo's is one of my favorite places for pizza in Pittsburgh, and I GREW UP
eating New York pizza. I'd say it compares favorably (but not identically!)
with some of the better pizza places in NYC, like Patsy's (don't know if
that helps anyone in PITTSBURGH or not ;-) )

I find the cheese a little on the salty side, and they pizza a bit greasy,
 *BUT* those aren't necessarily downsides.

If I'm in the mood for a lighter pizza (thinner crust, less grease), Italian
Village (Century III Mall, Forbes Ave SqHill) works for me. I'll *NEVER*
order delivery from the Squirrel Hill store again, though -- I've tried it
twice, and both times it took them over an HOUR to get it to me, and I'm
just on Beechwood Blvd! (I figured the first time was a fluke, so I tried
it a second time. The second time, after waiting 90 minutes, I called them
to see where it was, and the response was "Hang on. Oh, sorry, I see it
sitting on top of the oven, it'll be right over..." Gee, thanks guys!)

Actually, I guess that's a negative review of Italian Village, huh? ;-)

Has anyone tried Pi? Is it worth it? Seemed pricey to me, but I haven't
 TASTED it yet.
