Mexican, Cuban, ... Peruvian

When it comes to Kenny B's place downtown for Cuban, be _sure_ to call
ahead. They used to only serve it one night per week (usually Friday or
Saturday but it would change). If they have had poor turnout for a few
weeks, sometimes they won't have a Cuban night at all some weeks. Sometimes
it is excellent, and it is the only game in town.

In the big thread of posts about Mexican food, no one mentioned the Franklin
 Inn <http://pittsburgh.citysearch.com/profile/8630188/>. I haven't been
there in a long time. Is it still good?

As far as the places that were mentioned, I would agree Fajita Grill is not
quite as good as when it was in Pleasant Hills. Also, the service there is
super slow. Fiesta on Atwood is boring. Cozumel seemed to grind up the
fillings of all their dishes, removing all texture, though it has been a
while since I bothered to go there. Mariachi music also puts me off
 sometimes.

For a to-go-only Mexican lunch, I like Reyna's Foods in the Strip. It is
mostly a grocery store (an excellent one) but you can get tacos, burritos
and great tamales there. The cooks are usually Mexicans who have only been
here 6 or 12 months. Don't be put off by the microwave. If you are
 anti-lard, you're out of luck!

HERE is the best-kept secret restaurant in Pittsburgh! Are you ready?
It's La Feria, above Pamela's in Shadyside. They only have about 6 tables
and their Peruvian-style food is always fresh and good. And limeade like no
 other! Trust me. <http://pittsburgh.citysearch.com/profile/8625469/>.

ahhh - nothing fancy is right -- more like a diner. I love it though.
I've never had a disappointing meal there.

I forgot that one. I've been there several times but
the food, although it seems authentic, is not very
well prepared. I will probably never go there again
unless someone drags me. I think I'd rather have
 non-authentic Mex. food that's well-prepared and
tasty than authentic food cooked by a lousy cook.

This place is located fairly close to where I live, but I've only been there
once (it was probably 1 or 2 years ago). My wife and I both thought the food
was horrible. It was the blandest crap I've ever eaten. They seem to use
absolutely no spices, peppers, or flavoring of any kind. So I just stick
with Don Pablo's and occasionally Mad Mex now.
