Nothing for 2 days now. Where is everyone? Anyway, I went to La Fiesta for lunch yesterday. (New Mexican place on Atwood.) I was not impressed. Although the flavors were generally acceptable the quality was poor. The chips and salsa were those neon yellow/orange artificially colored tortilla chips (where do the *get* these things? I had something similar but even more day-glo orange in color at the former Cozumel in Greensburg) and salsa that had a nice kick to it but was basically pureed canned tomatoes. I ordered one of the lunch specials - a chicken enchilada and a beef soft taco with beans. I also ordered a tamal on the side. The enchilada was made with a *flour* tortilla!!!! Abomination!!!! I mentioned it to the waitress and she swore it was a corn tortilla. Sorry, but corn tortillas don't turn all gummy when soaked with sauce. And it didn't taste like corn. And it didn't have the texture of corn. Other than that the flavor of the sauce was good and the filling was okay. The beans were also good. Now where I come from Mexican-food-wise (I lived in L. A. for over 13 years) soft tacos consist of a corn tortilla which is briefly heated on a griddle with a little oil and then filled and folded over. So, what did I find in the little paper wrapper in which my soft taco was presented? You guessed it another flour tortilla. Blecch! And in the case of the taco the filling was some sort of flavorless pureed beef and equally flavorless lettuce and sour cream. I should have sent it back but I decided to try to doctor it up with so of the salsa but it didn't really help. The tamal was pretty decent - not great, but not too bad. It was a pretty good size - larger than what I consider average size for a tamal - which made me feel better about paying 3 bucks for it. All-in-all I can't really recommend this place and I don't think I will go back. Kate Kate Connally " If I were as old as I feel, I 'd be dead already."
