King James Court

I'd like to give a plug for King James Court on Washington Blvd. near Homewood
on the way to the Highland Park Bridge. It's a friendly, family-run barbecue
restaurant. I've tried both beef and pork rib dinners, which come with an
ample serving of 4 meaty bones, 2 side dishes from a huge number of choices
(baked beans, greens, black-eyed peas, corn on the cob...), and Texas toast or
corn muffins. The sauce is sweet, tangy, and plentiful. I take the hot, which
just has a small bite--some might want it hotter. The sides are also a big
enticement. I tried sweet potato pie for dessert one time, and it was also very
good. The restaurant seems to be doing well with take-out orders, but the
dining room so far hasn't been near full. The full pork rib dinner is, I
believe, $8.95--quite a bargain, especially with those yummy sides. You can
also get half and full racks of ribs. I haven't tried other menu items, which
include fried chicken, brisket, and 1/2 pound hamburgers. Service is friendly
and gracious, though it does take awhile for food to arrive. Diners are given
complimentary paper scrolls to take home--sort of like fortunes without the
cookies. Texts may be biblical but are not offensive. Actuallly they contain
more wisdom than the generic fortune cookie type.

I'd like to see this place do more business. I think they also have a take-out
location, perhaps in Wilkinsburg. The restaurant is located in what used to be
the Washington Blvd. Eat and Park.
