Hello fellow restaurant goers: Last night, some friends and I had dinner at a place called The Italian Village Cafe and Food Market. This place is on 2637 Philmont Ave. in Huntingdon Valley, PA. I don't work there or own any part of this business, but I was so impressed with it that I thought I would post a brief review. As the name implies, this place consists of a cafe AND a food market. The cafe is set up like a cafeteria where people wait in line to order their foods. The cafe has many different kinds of pastas and about 10 different types of sauces to go with the pasta along with sausage and meatballs. They also have some dinner entres which looked very fresh and tasty. I had the chicken lasgna. For $7.95, the piece of lasgna I was given was huge. It was also very tasty. All of the pastas are home made too and their prices were quite reasonable. The atmospher was also simple, bright and airy, and clean. This isn't a typical pizza place, but out of curiousity, a friend and I split a slice of mozerella and tomato sauce pizza. It was fantastic tasting! I never tasted a pizza which had such fresh tasting tomato sauce on it and the crust was just the way I like it; crispy and not too thin and not too thick. They also serve what looked like interesting deserts, but none of us had room for any deserts after we finished our dinner. The market part of the Italian Village is very interesting. They have a huge selection of dried pastas. They have quite a few types of pasta that I have never seen before. They also sell their fresh made pasta too. They have a wide variety of other Italian groceries including an impressive selection of olive oils and cheeses and olives. The prices there were a bit high, but for some reason, their spices (very wide selection) were priced very low. Anyway, if anyone hasn't tried this and you expect to be in the far Northeast Philly or Huntingdon Valley area, you should stop by. They're right near the Philmont Train station and the Philmont Country Club. If anyone else has been to the Italian Village, I am curious about what you thought of it.
