If not Casbah, then where?

So calibration is always somewhat useful. BTW, I didn't say that
I wouldn't go back to Casbah. I just wasn't impressed with what
we ordered given the cost. As it is 1/2 block from my house, I imagine
I will try it again. I too thought the presentation of the food
was wonderful, I just wasn't impressed with the eating of it.

Given all the gushy positive reviews, I thought that a few
words about what to avoid might be useful.

So places I have had memorable meals recently were:

Casa Chapala, The mexican place in Somerset. Though
I don't remember what was ordered. My kids undoubtably
     ordered the Fajita's.

SouthWest Bistro which I refound via this BBoard I thought was
     excellent.

The Jerk chicken at Jamaica Jamaica.

I also liked the food at the Italian Place in what used
to be Georgian Place that Peter Berger likes so much. Though
I don't think it is worth raving about.

The innumerable eating events at Mad Mex's in Oakland, Hot Licks
for ribs, and the various indian restaurants (Sree's and Taj Mahal)
stand out for repeat visits, but individual visits don't. I like
the sausage and hot peppers dish at the Somerset Italian Oven.

Then again I also have innumerable trips to fast food places and
chain restaurants. However, I haven't found any of those really
 worth writing about.

For what it's worth, the best dinners I've had in Pittsburgh have been at
Baum Vivant, on Baum Boulevard. It's pricey so I've only been there 3
times I think over the last 3 years. But the food's good and the staff
is professional and relaxed yet not goofy, so you forget you're in
Pittsburgh. Until you walk out to Baum Boulevard and face some car
dealership or whatever. What a shock. They could do better for
vegetarians, but I put that policy of mine to one side when I go there
anyway, so it's a mild complaint. The food is "continental" veering
towards Portuguese. I haven't been in months, so I can't contribute
comments on particular dishes. But it has been consistenly (over those
three times) the best restaurant experience I've had so far in
 Pittsburgh.
