Good restaurants in the north hills are few and far between ( literally). Here are some of my personal favorites: Rico's (Ross Twp.) Kaufmann House (Zelienople) Di Pietro's (Wexford) cindyk

Great Food in the North??

Jeraden, Give a try to the Grant Bar in Millvale, esp. on Friday night for the shrimp and crabcake special ($12.95 [I think] for entree, dessert and coffee) and lots of other good food--specials throughout the month, plus a great, homemade chocolate cream pie! You'll be pleasantly surprised. Also, we like Five Sisters on Rt. 8N just past Duncan...more surprises. Mr. Bonds on Mt. Royal serves great wings and bucket of beer on Wed. evenings, I do believe--call ahead. Welcome to Shaler. Enjoy! For "great" (as in, plan a visit just for the food), you may have to travel. At least for great vegetarian, which is all I know about. For "good" (as in, recommended, but not outstanding), one of my favorites is Taj Mahal, on McKnight road. Mad Mex used to be decent but seems to have been slipping the last few years, though they still have a good beer selection. And of course there is Sree's, a short trip from Shaler (ask me for the back way if you don't know it). Of course this short list reflects mainly the fact that it's hard to find much vegetarian fare in the North at all. Since you are in the neighborhood, here are two more of my favorite unexpected food-related surprises, both in Millvale: -Regis Steedle ice cream (get something at the counter, like a soda or a sundae) -Jean-Marc Chatellier's French bakery (hope I got that right). There are a few non-food treasures in the North Hills, too, like Vaters hardware and North Hills Sales and Service (Joe is amazing. Their card says "we fix anything from Broken China to a Broken Heart"). Jeraden wrote: >We have just moved to Shaler and are looking for great places to eat. >Anyone have any suggestions? >Thanks!
