I have eaten squid and many other things at Abate, sometimes
they are great, sometimes they are mediocre. Consistency seems
to be their biggest problem. Their fresh fish has been very
consistent and good, and their wood-fired pizza is far superior
to that Italian oven place, yuck.

The most consistent place I eat at on a regular basis that
serves squid is Juno (IN OXFORD CENTER, NOT IN ROSS PARK MALL!!!)
They always have it fried, never rubbery or tough. Now and
then the special sheet has a grilled squid appetizer or a sauteed
squid pasta, both are excellent. Once they even had fresh
octopus. Again, this place serves a magnificent antipasta cart.
Although I have never seen calamari on it alone, there was a
seafood salad with shrimp & mussels, calamari & cockles, it
 was delightful.
And you don't have to pay parking, they validate for the
 Oxford garage.

Zaw's asian food has a good squid stir fry. Its down on Murray, just
before you get to Bagel Land.

Probably the best chinese in the city, though not the
fanciest. Actually, its the only really good (i.e. not generic
american-ish) Chinese I've had. But, let's not start that...

You can even watch them cook it. Can't beat that!

I have always enjoyed the fried Calamari at Mallorca, a Spanish
restaurant on Carson St., just to the left of the Birmingham Bridge as
 you cross it.

As has been discussed at length on this bboard, Mallorca does not do
everything well. In particular, the paelaa is a bit of a disappointment,
although the sausage in it is delicious. However, the fried Calamari
is one of the dishes that Mallorca prepares very well, IMHO.
