I have not eaten there so I can't review it although someone said (I forget who) that this was a place where French Chef's came to learn english prior to working elsewhere. It's in Hopwood which is just east of Uniontown on U.S. 40. The name is Chez Gerard.

If you all are going to be in the Uniontown Area
Consider the Lardin House Inn -

The setting is in a 230 year old georgia style mansion with FINE Dining.

The owner, Brenie Glad is a very reputable Chief, and has run quite afew successful resturants.

As for the food it is Quite good and very reasonable !

So... if you are going thru the Uniontown / Masontown Area give it a try. It is on Rt 21.

Near the Rt 166 and Rt 21 intersection,
the phone number is (412)- 583-2380.
Ask for Bernie and tell him you saw this post
to the Internet in PGH.Food he is just getting
started with the 'net.

It is indeed called Chez Gerard, and my husband and I have gone there three times. We usually save it for special occasions (graduation, anniversaries, etc.) because it's a bit pricier than we're accustomed to spending on dinner out...but we feel it's definitely worth it! They have a fixed price menu for $35. The courses include an amuse-geul (a small appetizer), an entree or first course, the main dish, a cheese course and dessert. It's also possible to order a la carte. The chefs are French as are most of the servers; Gerard himself is also French and is married to a woman from Uniontown. The restaurant is in an historic inn and is beautifully decorated. It's quite comfortable, and not stuffy or overly formal in any way (how can it be when it's across the street from a drive-in chicken place?!)

Anyway, it's a bit of a drive from here, but we love it. We especially recommend the house cocktail (a kir royale), warm goat cheese salad as an entree, and the quail with grape stuffing as a main course. And every dessert we've tried is to die for!
