Since Mexican food is on everyone's mind lately... We ate at Franklin
Inn last night on the way home from Moraine State Park. Hadn't been
there in a couple of years. Our meal gets mixed reviews, but the
bottom line is I wouldn't make a special trip out there - go to Fajita
Grill instead. But if you're in the area, check it out.

The black bean soup was good. I had the special of the day, which was
chicken in a cilantro, onion, and garlic sauce. This was excellent -
fresh cilantro, not overpowering, "spanish" rice on the side. Terri
had enchiladas verde. The salsa verde was pretty bland and
disappointing. We couldn't identify its main component, but it wasn't
tomatillas. The refried beans were bland and tasteless, but they tried
to compensate by giving you an enormous lump of them... Plus, I always
get suspicious when a restaraunt offers rice or beans, instead of the
 traditional rice and beans.

Entrees were in the $8-9 range. Franklin Inn is north of Pittsburgh in
Franklin Park on Rochester Road near were the yellow belt crosses.

By the way: a few miles south of Moraine on route 19 is a new
restaraunt (1 or 2 years old) called The Log Cabin Inn. We've never
eaten there, but yesterday evening it seemed to be jammed to
overflowing. Has anyone been there? It looks intriguing.

It's located in the North Hills, a bit off of the Mt. Nebo Road exit on
I-79, otherwise known as Franklin Park. The food is MExican and is
pretty good. Great margaritas (sp?) :)

In my search for good mexican food in Pittsburgh area I tried out this
place at the reccomendation of a number of people on the newsgroup and at
 work.

Wife and I went Saturday. We were seated immediately (5:30) but the place
filled up right after that. Atmosphere is comfortable. Seating is
 available for 2-8.

I ordered off the ala carte section of menu: Beef Taco, Beef and Cheese
enchilada and a chile relleno. Wife had Beef burrito and cheese and onion
 enchilada.

The beef taco and enchilada were nicely prepared with a different but
moderately good (IMHO) flavor. Not too heavily spiced and not overdone
with cheese. The beef seemed to be of good quality. The chile relleno
however was a real disappointment. It was a mild chile pepper, breaded
and deep fried with a hint of cheese in the middle. It was reminiscent of
those frozen entrees you find in the grocery store. When served they
spoon a bunch of stewed onions on top and completely obliterate the deep
fried cover into mush. At 3 bucks I certainly expected something better
 than this.

My wife on the other hand did not like the burrito she ordered. She said
the beef mixture tasted "funny". She said the enchilada was OK. We each
had the caramel flan for dessert and the bill for two was $21.60 excluding
 tip.

IMHO the prices charged (2.25 to 3.00) for each ala carte serving were
such that I expected a little better food. We had to wait 25 minutes
after we finished our meal to get our waitress' attention and ask for the
check. I guess I am still hoping to find a place in Pittsburgh that has a
taco like Taco Joes in Indianapolis or a chile relleno like Los Reyes in
Atlanta. Haven't found it yet. Better than Chi Chi's? Well yeah, but
not by a bunch. The seating was much quicker but the table service was not
 any faster.
