After a tour of the Frick estate (something every 'burgher ought to do at least once) we stopped at the East End Food Co-op for lunch. I've been buying bulk beans and grain there for years, but I'd only been to the cafe once, and I was disappointed then (right after they opened the cafe--maybe two years ago). This time I was pleasantly surprised. There were six diners, and each was able to find something that she liked. The portions were quite large enough for the biggest eater, but it was not a case of quantity overwhelming quality. On the down side, the batch of tahini they had was inferior. It had very little taste, and the taste that it did have was much more bitter than usual. I was forced to turn a batch of hummus into a garlic-onion dominated vegetable spread (which was okay, since I love garlic, and everyone I love loves garlic). The next time I buy tahini there, I'll be sure to taste it on the sly (I promise not to contaminate it!). Fred
