My wife and I went there a couple of months ago, after the last flurry
of posts on pgh.food. Bottom line: we'll definitely be going again.

Atmosphere: Quaint, small. Probably about eight tables in the place
of varying sizes; when we were there, there was one gathering of about
10 people, a few groups of 4-5, and three couples. That pretty much
filled the place. It was lively, but not loud (excessive MadMex noise
levels are one of my pet peeves).

Food: We had a garlic-sauteed portobello mushroom for an appetizer,
which was great, particularly if you love garlic and mushrooms. For
the main course, I had pan-fried veal, she had a seafood entree which
I can't quite recall. Both courses were also excellent; the veal and
fish were tender and juicy. Finished it off with cinnamon ice cream
 and an espresso.

Service: Probably among the best I've had in Pgh, which I realize isn't
necessarily saying much. But our waiter struck the right balance
between "stop at our table every 5 seconds" and "oh yeah, I forgot you
guys were here." Knowledgeable about the menu as well.

Prices: $5-8 for appetizers, $15-20 for entrees, ~$40 for the specials
(which were a bit more interesting, and come with a side dish of
pasta). I remember a previous post mentioned that this was a big
shock when it came time to pay, since the prices for the specials
weren't listed, and the (mistaken) assumption is that they would also
be in the $15-20 range. They seem to have remedied that; the special prices
were listed on our menus, and the waiter made a point of noting it.

As I recall, they don't accept credit cards, and BYOB. Reservations would
be wise. It's in Beechview. I have no idea how to get there by car, but the
42S T takes you right past it; get off at Boustead or Shiras.

Drive through the Liberty Tubes and go through auto-dealership-land.
Turn right just past the Rohrich Cadillac dealer. Take a left at the end
of the street (watch out for trollies). Davio's is a block or so along
 there, on the right.

Haven't been there in a while, but it used to be our annual anniversary
dinner place. And yeah, the portobello appetizer and the complementary
bread and fagellini are worth the trip.

Davios is probably the premeire Italian restaurant in all of
Pittsburgh! The food, service, and atmosphere are what make it the
best. One restaurant that is definately in the same league is Davio's
next door neighbor Palio. Palio has a liquor licence and a menue very
simular to Davios. Chef Davio owns both places, and Palio is worth a
 visit!
