Cafe Mimi, Swissvale

I haven't seen any other posts about Cafe Mimi, and I've been tempted
to let it remain a well-kept secret, but I want to make sure it
survives (there's a serious lack of good restaurants in the Swissvale
 area).

Cafe Mimi is on S. Braddock Ave. across from Edgewood Towne Centre
and next to Frankie's in Swissvale. It used to be Heatherington's
until chef Mimi Stutz (formerly of Christopher's, I believe) bought it
several months ago. It's fairly casual and reasonably priced, but
they have some really interesting dishes, a small selection of decent
beers and wines, as well as sandwiches.

In particular, the daily specials are wonderful. For example, last
night I had a filet w/boursin cheese in a Dijon sauce, and my husband
had the salmon coated with nuts. My filet, which came with a side
dish and salad, was $14.95; I think the salmon was $11.95. (The filet
was the highest priced dinner I've ever seen there; average is
 probably around $10.)

The only warning about Cafe Mimi is that the waitstaff is a bit
inconsistent. This is primarily because Mimi kept on some of the
employees from Heatherington's, which was your typical "bar food" kind
of place. They're competent, but they often have trouble describing
some of the more exotic dishes, for example.

Cafe Mimi is definitely worth a try if you're in the neighborhood (and
maybe even if you're not)! It's pretty busy on Friday and Saturday
evenings, and they only take reservations for larger groups.
