Yesterday some of my co-workers and I tried the Afternoon Tea at the Wm Penn Hotel downtown. We had made reservations the day before and had been assured that we could split a few of the orders which were to include pastries, scones, finger sandwiches and fresh tea for $13.95 each. There were eight of us. We arrived to a table already set up with two plates of pastries, a plate of scones, and carafes of hot water and *tea bags*. The pastries weren't terrible, but who knows how long they were sitting there. And there were no finger sandwiches. Certainly no clotted cream. And virtually no service. By the way, each of us were charged full price. We took the leftovers back to the office. A far cry from the splendid tea offered at the restaurant at the Frick! It's too bad. The Wm Penn folks have a handsome setting and they could really do a great job, if they gave it one iota of thought. Tea bags. Phooey. CDC
