My absolute favorite is the Oyster House in Market Square. Hands down,
they fry the best fish in town. Their breading has something that no
one can even come close to. A sandwich will run you about $3. Jimmy's
Post Tavern (Smithfield St., off of the Blvd of the Allies) is probably
second. It is an obscenely large sandwich. Something like a pound (if
not more) of fish for roughly $5. Actually, I'm eating a Jimmy's fish
as I'm writing this message. Benkovitz in the Strip is good as well,
but they are a bit pricey for the amount of fish you get (almost 4 bucks
for a minnow-sized sandwich), and they close early.

Other places I've had good or decent fish: Charlie's (next to
Mitchell's in North Oakland), Ryan's Pub on Braddock St. at Forbes Ave.,
and the Main Hotel in Carnegie.

 Hope this was helpful.

Rocky's Bar and restaurant in Carnegie has the best fish sandwich I ever
 had!

Rocky's is located an 1/8th of a mile before 'Gab-N-Eat' on the same
 side of the street.

Butya's in Robinson. It's on 60 about a mile west of I-79 next to the
old drive-in. Biggest and best I've had anywhere in the entire country
(though I haven't tried some of the ones mentioned downtown - they are
now on my list!). Be prepared to wait if you don't get there early
(before 11:30 for lunch and 5:30 for dinner) - this is one popular
place: they sell one hell of a lot of fish!!!!

I'm actually surprised that no one else mentioned it first.

Well, George, my personal favorites, both much better than Wholley's,
are the Oyster House and Benkovitz. Nice tasty sandwiches, without
the fishy edge that Wholley's seem to have.

One of the other things about the Oyster House that I like too is that
if you go up to the bar and order a sandwich, it is physically
impossible to get one faster than they will get it for you. They keep
fresh ones on a rack under the bar (or near it somewhere).

Another good place is called "Dorido's" near the golf course in South
Park. I think that it's on Brownsville Road. Go to Curry, make a left
at the big intersection, go about 1/2 mile make a right up the hill at
the stop sign and it's a bout a mile on the right.

I the city the Original Oyster House is it. East of the city, Fat
Zackels in Claridge (between Rt 22 and 30 east of Murraysville)
is the best fish sandwich I've ever had bar none.
That and their onion rings are their specialty. Worth the drive, but
 closed on Sundays.

Rocky's is the best in Carnegie or Stowe

 Hi all,

You folks are great!!! (either that or you all have way too much
time on your hands... ;) ) I really apreciate all the suggestions

I found myself at Jimmy's Post Tavern Friday evening... The fish was
indeed very good. The roll, however, was outstanding!!

I'm looking forward to trying many of the other places mentioned.
Again, thanks for all of the responses!

 sincerely,

 george
