This is an easy one: 1. Sarcone's -- in South Philly, at the north end of the Italian Market, ie on 9th Street near Catharine. The ancient oven imparts an amazing flavor to the crust, and the inside is pure white fluffy heaven. You must taste it before you die. Actually, you may have already had this bread, if you frequent good restaurants-- they supply some of the finest in Philly. But take it from me, go down and try it warm and fresh from that oven. The seeded ring is the best 75 cents you will ever spend. The long loaf makes a devastating hoagie. Just please don't go there near the holidays-- I had to get up at dawn last New Years Day to get rolls for my party, to be sure they wouldn't run out, and I don't need you standing in front of me in line this year! 2. Cacia's-- (pronounced CASH-ya) on Ritner Street between 15th and 16th in South Philly. Best known for their rolls. The crust is a little hard for some people's taste, but the rolls are absolutely perfect for "wet" sandwiches like roast beef or roast pork. Their pizza is great, too. And they will sell you dough. 3. All the rest. Sorry... fabulous X X X
