If you like Thai food, take her/him to Lemongrass in Squirrel Hill.

If you're looking for something a little more traditional try
Abruzzi's on the South Side. If you don't order wine you should be
 able to stay under $40.

I don't think I've ever gone over $40 at China Palace in Shadyside
(Walnut Street). That would include two entrees, an appetizer, and
one alcoholic drink (I don't drink, but my fiancee sometimes does).
China Palace is the best Chinese restaraunt I've been to in Pittsburgh --
 excellent food and great service.
