I just moved to Dayton, OH last August, and due to the freak winter of our discontent, didn't get out much. I'm a restaurant connoisseur, (read "food snob"), and so far I've discovered that the area's good restaurants are there, but you have to pan for them, sort of like gold nuggets or something. So far I've found the following, but any additional suggestions would be appreciated. The Winds - Yellow Springs TWs - Miamisburg Amar India - Centerville Little Saigon - Dayton Jay's - Dayton Truffles Cafe - Kettering China Cottage - Kettering The Bistro at L'Auberge - Kettering The Oakwood Club - Oakwood (Please don't refer me to any more steak and prime rib places, Dayton has more than its fair share.) ANY of the Vietnamese places-The Viet, on Linden, Little Saigon on Woodman, and Oahm Pham on Dayton-Fairfield. Delicious and cheap. 2. Angi's-Hungarian food. 3. Anticoli's for Italian, and Dominic's, but mostly for their house dressing. Dayton has a vastly underappreciated variety of quality diners and greasy spoons, and everyone has a few favorites. Mine is Sandi's, on Springfield St. Big portions, classic setting, and incredible pies. Go to the Oregon Express for pizza. And if you appreciate a fine donut, check out Donut Palace at Salem and Gettysburg-it isn't one of those light, Yuppie croissants, let me tell you. Fine dining is available in Dayton, too, but the casual places are where the food really shines. If you want a classier meal, try the Wind's Cafe in Yellow Springs. They have monthly specials instead of a permanent menu, and their Vegetarian dishes are fantastic, even if you don't like "vegetarian". Don't neglect their Cappucino.
