Suman's Take-Out has reopened in its original location: 2300 Chapel Hill Road in Durham. Tel: 493-3299. Evening meals only. Suman's has the best Indian cuisine in the Triangle, in my opinion. The food is always carefully prepared, is very fresh, and intensely tastey. The menu now has both truly scrumptious Indian selections as well as some American all time favorites (prepared by Suman's associate SuAnn). However, let's hope that the Take Out is as good as it used to be, and not anything like the eclectic stuff she serves up in that "place to be seen" restaurant. I guess the bills have to be paid somehow. Pity it is at the expense of the food quality. She didn't have that problem at the original Take Out. If you want the best and most authentic Indian food, go to the Taj Mahal on Capital Blvd. in Raleigh. No need to be a pseudo intellectual to dine here. You can order a plate of Chicken Tikka and a lamb dish (lamb rogan josh, for example). Instruct the cook to prepare the dishes with mild or medium spice contents (DONT TRY THE SPICY OR EXTRA SPICY STUFF UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING). Order 2 varieties of Naans (bread) and a plate of rice if it is not already included with the entrees. As a dessert, try out the Rasmalai or the Gulabjamun. There are quite a few decent Indian places but my personal favourite is a dinner in Bombay Grille (near 54-55 crossing in RTP). It is not crowded in the evenings and the food is very good with good service. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for their lunch buffet. I also like India Mahal in Hillsborough Street (Raleigh) and have not tried dinner at Royal India (Capital Blvd) but I have heard that it is also quite good.

One caveat: outside of the buffet, they are quite variable. I eat there often, and occasionally have been served cold food, and dishes that were excellent one visit have been mediocre at others. Still, that buffet...

The Taj Mahal, further north on Cap. Blvd., is also very good. In fact the chef/owner was from the Royal India. FWIW, there is a buy one entree, get one free coupon in the new Triangle Dining book for the Royal India. I used mine last night. Graham >On Sun, 05 Oct 1997 23:18:58 GMT, [email removed] (Marc >J.
