Nobody said either of those two things was true. The original poster said *IF* you are looking for a NY-style diner. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people in the Triangle from NY who may have a different understanding of what constitutes a diner than the rest of the country.

I thought the original poster's comments were right on target, having
been both to Gypsy's and to plenty of northeastern Greek diners (which always seem to have this beige stone facade around the whole building for some reason). And while I admire Gypsy's for the sole purpose that it pisses Cary off, I found their food mostly uninteresting and pretty pricey to boot. If you're looking for a good non-NY-style diner, try Owen's 501 Diner on 15-501 in Chapel Hill... I eat there lots and love it! If you're looking for a NY style diner, wait till you go back up north. :-)
