Nevertheless, I have eaten there frequently because it's convenient. They have gotten their act together quite a bit, but the food is ordinary and they are lax about refilling the steam trays. It's not uncommon to find a half dozen trays with bits of stale food in them. They seem to want to wait for someone to take the last little bit before refilling. It's OK for lunch, if you are in the area, but I wouldn't recommend anyone make a special trip for it. Dick Evans

Great Chinese Buffet in Raleigh...

(Like I said, it's convenient.) Rather I should say I *almost* had lunch there. I walked in and was seated but then approached the serving line to find more than half the trays empty or containing only meager scraps of unappetizing food. I walked out. Now, in all fairness, it was about five minutes to two, and they do stop serving at 2:00, but from the condition of the food they had obviously stopped refreshing the line quite a bit earlier. For instance, there was no egg foo yung at all, but the gravy in the adjoining tray had sat there long enough to form crust around the edges and a thick skin over the surface. I have spoken to the manager about this problem on several occasions, but he just doesn't seem to get it. If you have any connection with this place at all, tell them they'll get more business by paying attention to the basics (fresh, appetizing food) than by spamming local newsgroups. Dick Evans

I haven't tried the Hard Wok recently, but the garbage I encountered on a visit there a few weeks after they opened prompted a decision that I would not go there again short of a change in ownership, management and cook staff. It was not "mediocre" by any stretch of the imagination, but absolutely the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. A 1000% improvement might have brought the food to near the mediocre mark. When I want good Chinese buffet, I head for Eastern Buffet. Larry §§§ Please remove both "r"s from rlbcr@... to reply by e-mail §§§
