Hi,
Just got back from our NC/TN trip and while I didn't
get to nearly the amount of BBQ sandwiches I wanted to, I did manage a few. Here's some mini-reviews.
- Hannah's - Rt 321, Lenoir, NC
Quick, cheap ($2.49) sandwich with standard chopped BBQ with decent sauce - nothing to rave about but worth the stop and the cost.
- Woodland's BBQ - Rt 321, Blowing Rock, NC.
This was the best sandwich of the trip - pulled/chopped with nice chunks of tender pork with a nice smokey flavor and a great hot vinegar sauce. I think this one was $3.50.
- Pardner's BBQ - Rt 11E, Piney Flats, TN
This was a big favorite with the locals but the sandwich was thinly sliced pork (not pulled or chopped) with a way- too-sweet sauce, but a huge portion. It was also on a butter-grilled roll - odd but went well. They had excellent fries.
- Red Pig BBQ - Ferguson Road, Johnson City, TN
Nice chunks of moist pulled pork, but not much smoke flavor and a small portion for the bun size and the cost - $4. A good vinegar-based sauce. I'd try this one again to see if my sandwich was just an anomaly.North Carolina
