It is rare to find a place that has Good service, Good food, and Good prices all at the same time.

Off of Tunnel Road in Asheville,NC is a place called Veracruz. Steaks, seafood, chicken, mexican food. Great. The entrees were all around the $9.99 - $15 range and they had some good specials. The plates were huge and portions filled the plates!

Recommended: Baja's Best.

Thanks for sending all the great restaurant suggestions for North Carolina. We're just back from a weekend in Chapel Hill and ate well thanks to you. Crook's Corner was amazing, and Pyewacket also was good. Without your help we might never have known where to go.

Two other places you might want to add to your collection are in Wilson, N.C. just outside Raleigh. We always stop there when we're in the neighborhood. Usually we eat at Parker's. It's an expansive barbecue emporium that feeds you well for little money (something like $5.95 for all you can eat and $3.35 for a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings). We usually get a barbecue plate with Brunswick stew, boiled potatoes and slaw. It comes with corn sticks. The same fare is also nearby at Bill's. Both are giant places with huge businesses. They serve quickly. Hint: A waiter told us the large and small barbecue plates are just about the right size. And, he was right. My husband ordered big; I ordered regular. What we got looked the same.

Thanks again.

Last week I was there visiting my Dad. Took him and stepmother out to the Windmill restaurant.

I had the long island duckling with dark cherry sauce. I thought it
very good; not the best I've ever had but admirable. My father also had the duckling, with a different sauce; he pronounced it the best restaurant meal he'd had in 10 years. Stepmom had the veal, she was also very pleased. Entrees $12-18.

At the Windmill, I asked for a recommendation on North Carolina BBQ. The manager consulted his staff and said the consensus recommendation was Three Pigs. We had lunch there Monday. I was not converted to the N Carolina BBQ religion - I found the sauce to sweet and the meat not particularly smoky.

Anybody mention a better BBQ place up Asheville way?

Parker's Barbecue in Wilson NC, just off US 301. As a expatriate Texan, I'll never be fully converted -- and must go to Goode & Co. at least once a year -- but Parker's comes about as close as you can get to perfect NC-style BBQ.
