Romantic dinner in or near Ithaca NY?
Rick- We used to be students in Ithaca, so we have some suggestions (even though it's after Valentine's Day...maybe you could try them in the future :) ! Taughannock Farms Inn on the West side of Cayuga is THE place for a romantic, prix fixe menu (we should know, we're married now)!! The Inn overlooks the water and offers great food and ambiance. Moosewood is a sure bet for imaginative vegetarian food. Not the most romantic, but funky and fun. Sunday is ethnic night, and not to be missed. Just a Taste on the commons can be good, too, if you're in the mood for light tappas and wine tasting (not necessarily in that order)! Enjoy! Cam & Kira Dales
Hi Guy, I know this is too late for V-Day (I just got around to reading my mail), but having been a native upstate NYorker, I spent many a grand time in Ithaca. There are two, sometimes overly pretentios, French restaurants - L'Auberge du Cochon Rouge, and The Geystone Inn. There's a little walkdown Carobbean place called "Jay's Place" except Jay doesn't own it anymore so I can't attest to it's quality now. There's also a neat little bistro called "Renee's" that I have had some wonderful food and fun in. On "The Commons" (the main drag), there is a tapas bar called "Just a Taste" that is plain (b&w), austere, but has a great menu and wonderful draft beers and wines (from the bottle) by the glass. There's also a little place on Aurora St called (I think) (but I think I'm wrong on the name) Dano's, that looks like (I've never eaten there but gloated over the menu in the window many times) yuppie heaven. I don't get back up there much now, but of you're going to be around that area anytime drop me a note and I can fill in the gatronomic blanks. :) Chas
Try the Elm Tree Inn on one of the backroads between Ithaca and Cortland, should be in the Ithaca phone book. Our dinner there was better than anything from Abbey's, L' Berge, Danos,Pierce's, you name it. Steve
