While it may be too late for this person, there is a fairly
comprehensive guide to restaurants in and around Buffalo available by anonymous ftp from ftp.cs.buffalo.edu in /pub/misc. The guide is in both postscript and tex formats.

If you do read this before you come to town, I would recommend
Just Pasta, on Bryant St., near Elmwood, tel. 881-1888, if you are going to be downtown, or SpagWest on New Road in Amherst if you are stuck in the burbs.

      Happy Dining.

I missed the original posting, but there are great restaurants in Buffalo:

Expensive French: Rue Franklin West [716] 852-4416 Expensive Italian: Il Fiorentino [716] 833-4175
                   Sassella [716] 839-3258

Expensive Northern Italian/contemporary: Pranzo Ristorante [716] 634-2300

Excellent moderately priced places:

  Billy Ogden's Lovejoy Grill [716] 896-8018
  Just Pasta [716] 881-1888
  Rigoletto's [716] 833-4607

These are but a few. . .

To the previously mentioned places I would add the Tay Do, a new inexpensive Vietnamese place (3106 Main St., 838-0670). They list Viet & Thai food, but I recommend sticking to the Viet. side of the menu.

Also the Ming Teh, an excellent Chinese place located just across the border in Ft. Erie, Ontario. It's located on River Rd., very near some second rate Chinese places (sorry don't have the number handy).

I just moved back here this Summer after a ten year absence & agree with the earlier posts... esp. Rue Franklin & Billy Ogdens - both very good. I've also enjoyed a place called Rigoletto's, or at least their Elmwood Avenue location (near the Buffalo State COllege campus).
