In between hiking the gorge, the gorge rim, the mountains and the galleries we had some wonderful meals. Here's a taste. Orlando's. This terrific little place on Paseo del Pueblo Norte is regular for us. We usually have lunch there after hiking. But dinner is good too - for New Mexican style food. They have a great "build your own bowl" dish where you can specify what you want - offering beans, posole, green chile, red chile, chicken, pork, lettuce, onions, cheese, tomatos. You get the picture. My favorite is a bowl of posole with onions, green chile, tomatos and a Fat Tire to wash it down. Joseph's Table. Although it's been in Taos for a few years this was our first venture there. I'm sorry we waited so long. Joseph Wrede was just named one of the Top Ten New Young Chef's by Food & Wine and based upon our experience he deserved it. Standout's included the basil gnocchi appetizer and my roast duck in roquefort sauce with a cherry salsa. A simple dessert of rice pudding infused with orange and peach essence was outstanding. Lambert's. This is on old favorite of ours. We've never been disappointed. I prefer it over Doc Martin's. Apple Tree. Another standard. An easy walk from the Fechin Inn where we stay (it's dog friendly.) They have a slightly new menu with some interesting new dishes as well as some old favorites. The grilled duck fajitas and Thai curry vegies were excellent. La Luna. Northern Italian with a New Mexico twist. The penne La Luna is my favorite. Made with garlic, roasted chiles and chorizo. Unfortunately the patio at the Taos Inn was not open yet so we had to miss our daily martini there with the dogs, watching the entertainment drive by on the Paseo. But the Fechin Inn has a nice quiet veranda where we can sip the same - minus the company of the hairballs. From [email removed] Tue Jul 25 19:49:21 EDT 2000 Article: 51251 of rec.food.restaurants
