On July 29, 1995, four of us went to one of the "newest" and "hottest" restaurants in Sante Fe -- The Double A. The restaurant was beautiful, right down to the bathrooms! The bar was spectacular and the furniture in the dining room included gorgeous leather "cowboy" chairs. We all rated the atmosphere high. However, the food was very mediocre and the service was amateurish. The waitress poured wine on the table, not in the glasses -- forgot to mention specials -- and brought margueritas 20 minutes after ordering them -- she was useless. Now for the FOOD - bland and boring. I had a seabass special and my friends had a steak filet, roasted chicken and quail. Only the steak-eater had anything good to say about their dish. The only appetizers on the menu, and there were nine to choose from, were salads -- nothing hot. And last, but not least, the busboys rush to remove your plates while you're still eating. We didn't bother to order any dessert or coffee because we were sure the food and the service would continue to be terrible! All-in-all, the setting is so beautiful that I hope they get their act together on food and service. Then maybe the meal would be worth our time and $$. Appetizers, maincourse, a bottle of wine and six margeritas cost $200. Michelle From [email protected] Tue Aug 8 16:55:28 EDT 1995 Article: 18241 of rec.food.restaurants

Double A Grill, Sante Fe, New Mexico
Michelle, I did a post on Double AA Grill a few weeks ago. You're right, the decor (Cowboy/Western) is stunning; that's what $5 million will buy you in SF. My experience was the food absolutely first rate (two pasta dishes & I had the Cowboy Coffee-Rubbed Quail). The service left a lot to be desired. The front desk people were very cold and uncaring, as if they were doing you a favor just to acknowledge your existance. And the prices make it one of SF's most expensive restaurants. So sad, the place has a lot of potential.
