Last night, I had the Cairo chicken plate -- roast chicken over rice, with a Greek salad. Pretty much perfect -- although next time I'll ask them to go easy on the onions in the salad -- for $5.75! My wife raved about her Egyptian moussaka ($4.85!!). We've also tried and liked the gyros (real lamb!), hummus and falafel. Greek salads have been consistently excellent. The pita is homemade and very tasty. The babaganouj was so-so, as were the two desserts we've tried so far. Cleopatra is run by an Egyptian, and his recipes are a bit different than the more common Greek-Lebanese-Palestianian places, a nice change of pace. We prefer Cleopatra's food to Whistling Moon's -- though WM is certainly more atmospheric. Service is basic, as you would expect at these prices: order at the counter, food-court seating -- but with real dishes and cloth napkins. Nice people, too. No beer or wine. Virtually tourist-free. Cleopatra is inside the Design Center, an industrial-looking antique (etc) mall at 418 Cerillos, between Cerrillos and Sandoval. Open 11AM to 9PM, Mon to Sat (820-7381). Note that if you're coming into town, Cerrillos is the right lane (only) where Sandoval splits off to the left -- but either will work, as the Design Center has entrances from both streets. Plenty of parking. Happy Eating! Pete Tillman, Eldorado From [email removed] Thu Aug 14 06:07:41 EDT 2003 Article: 57913 of rec.food.restaurants
