I've never had better food for an entire vacation than I did the time I went to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. I highly recommend La Tertulia in Santa Fe -- try the black bean jalapeno soup. Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of the restaurants I loved in Albuquerque. One of them was right in the old town square, and might have had "Mary" in its name. I seem to recall that to get in to the restaurant we walked into a courtyard adjacent to the square.

Have a great time!

In Santa Fe try The Shed and/or Josey's for lunch. they're both good. also Tomasitas (sp?) is good. they're typical SF cuisine. You won't find any roasted armadillo with green chile raspberry truffle sauce here...

Also in Santa Fe don't miss Pasquals. If you can spend a little extra -well, maybe more than just a little - get to Santacafe, probably THE New Mexico restaurant. The most well-known and expensive restaurant, with a national reputation, is The Cayote, but that really is overpriced for the quality of food. Good late-night burgers ath the San Fransicso.

I must disagree here. I am a great fan of Coyote Cafe food, and while expensive I don't think it's overpriced. It's no more expensive than Cafe Pasquales anyway. Coyote Cafe food is very innovative. Lots of neat combinations. I was underwhelmed by Pasquales. - YMMV

On the whole you'll get good food everywhere in Santa Fe though (No I haven't actually tried every restaurant). Be prepared for occasional digestive problems though, a constant diet of chiles (including breakfast) can be a bit trying on all but the most hardened stomachs.

Enjoy,
Stef

In Santa Fe, go to the Old Mexico Grill. It is in a shopping plaza. I had a dish that was ground beef spiced with cinnamon and raisins stuffed in a chile. It was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is not nearly as expensive as many other well-known restaurants in Santa Fe.

In Santa Fe:

Tomasita's
The Pantry
Old Mexico Grill
The main dining room at the La Fonda Hotel
The Pink Adobe
The Shed (lunch only)
The Bull Ring
The Palace

These are only some that come to mind, in no particular order. Santa Fe is full of excellent to great restaurants.
