Newark Avenue in Jersey City is jammed with Indian restaurants, mainly from the vegetarian-minded west Indian state of Gujarat. Most recommended is Chowpatty (809 Newark Ave, 201-283-9020) which has a carryout section where they serve "chat" or snacks, with a sit-down dining room with thali and special meals with many dishes. The food is yogurt and pulse-based, and is a real treat if you've never tried it--totally different than the meaty Muslim food you often find in Indian and Pakistani restaurants!
In Hoboken: East LA -- Mexican. Casual (not for formal business meetings). Between 5th and 6th on Washington. Helmers -- German. My personal favorite. 11th and Washington. Appropriate for business. Gerrinos -- Italian. Rooftop dining with view of Manhattan. River Street between 1st and 2nd. Expensive, but will validate parking.

I went there for lunch on my birthday and alot of business people were having lunch meetings. The view of Manhattan is incredible and I think there is also seating outside. The food was pretty good when I went there, but my parents went to a black tie banquet held there and said the food wasn't very good. But, I have yet to go to a large affair and have the food be anything but mediocre. Susan
