My favorite restaurant anywhere is Menz. Its a restaurant which is run by the Menz family. Its just damned good food, but not anything exotic. The prices there, at least for me, are typically about $15 a meal. You can spend much more though if you get their seafood or big steaks, but I usually get a chicken dish. Their chicken noodle soup is superb as an appetiser. The restaurant is about a 10 minute drive north of Cape May. You go up the parkway or route 9 until you get to route 38 (I think) which is Rio Grande. Go west about 5 miles and you will see Menz on the left. You can't miss it. The place is huge and is full of all sorts of artifacts that the Menz's collected as they traveled around the world. You need to make reservations there during the summer, especially on weekends. The don't require the reservations, but without them, you'l wait an hour or more for a seating. The phone number is 1-609-886-9500 and you can call the day you want the reservation a few hours before you plan to dine there.

The Despite my frequent diagreement with Mr. Horwitz on cheese steak joints I must totally agree with him on Menz. Well worth the drive and probably one of the best examples of what James Beard refers to as American Cookery on the East Coast. Very straightforward, and lots of it. Just heard that the ubiquitous Mr. Menz passed away last year. He will be missed. But I'm afraid that we may see him stuffed and displayed with some of the other collectibles that adorn the walls of this local landmark. Cheers, Frank
