Thought I would report back post trip.......
First food was in the cafe on top of Metz store for the view of the city having established location of Bojo Indonesian which stays open late. Our next food after lots of tourism was Gouda on the candlelit canal cruise (book earlier). I really liked the Cumin flavoured one. Back at Bojo (unlicensed by the way) at about 3am for Nasi Goreng which went down really well, I do like restaurants where you wonder what the other customers can do for a living and the police check the place out (in the freindliest way) half way through dinner. Early breakfast was hard to find as Central station didnt have an all night buffet. The "Sky Sports" bar opposite the theatre in centre of town opened at 7am so it was fried breakfast with Red Bull for a wakeup call as the coffee machine refused to function. Luckily the flower market and a cheese shop near the station were open on Sunday for shopping on way out and a couple of "Double Palm" heavyish beers went down well before getting the train. Thanks for all the advice!
