Four Thai Cafe's in the U City loop. All owned by the same people with different specialties (seafood, student hangout, slightly more upscale and some other specialty). Three on Delmar proper, one of them other side of Skinker, near the Pagent (that's the slightly more upscale one). One on Eastgate, right around the bend and the fourth next to Delmar bar and lounge. I prefer the Thai Country Cafe (Big ship's wheel when you come in, for apparently no other reason than for kids to spin the squeaky thing over and over driving everyone nuts) on the North side of Delmar and enjoy the food in the slightly upscale one on the other side of Skinker, also on Delmar. Both have excellent food and in my opinion far better than King and I (Grand) for two reasons. Value for money is much better for both lunch and dinner, but most definitely for dinner. Less heavy, and less coconut oily / fried food and less snooty service. The soups, fried rice as well as the rice plates have always been excellent and I've not had the same luck with the soups at King and I. Also on weekends, the wait is shorter in the loop than King and I. -Anjana.
