There's a new Vietmanese plase that just opened yesterday, Thurs, 3/29/2001, located on the east side of Euclid Ave, just north of Laclede, north from Einstein's bagelry. My son and I ate lunch there today (Fri), and it was pretty good! We had the shrimp and pork spring rolls /w/ peanut dipping sauce as an appetizer, and chicken curry (both of us) as entre. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee, sweetened /w/ condensed sweetened milk (i just LOVE that stuff!). Everything was pretty good, not great, but definitely worth the trip. The peanut dipping sauce was much darker than I expected (judging from a satay sauce expectation), and was quite sweet, actually, with ground peanuts in it. Yummy! Ate some on the rice of my entre too. The chicken curry was nicely spiced, and had chunks of carrot and potato, in addition to lots of tender whitemeat chicken, in a curry sauce that could have been a little thinker for my taste.

The service was very good, attentive, but not obtrusive. I'm happy to have patronized the place, and will again, I'm sure.

Oh, and our waitress was *very* cute! Sorry, I have a 'Y' chromosome that *is* very obtrusive!

This place is called Saigon Cafe or something very similar. I have been there three times (twice for lunch and once for supper). It's very good. Their big bowls of rice noodle soup are great for lunch. I tried their shrip wrapped around sugar cane for supper. It was sort of lije a do-it-yourself fresh springroll setup with lots of bean sprouts, shreddded carrot, fresh cilantro, etc and a side plate of thin rice paper for rolling it all up and dipping in their peanut sauce.

They are still working on getting their liquor license (the hearing notices are posted in the neighborhood).

Little Saigon (Cafe, I think), one of my housemates brought a menu home.

Their "peanut sauce" is plum sauce with coarsely ground peanuts in it.

My father and sister and I went there for dinner. I got the fried rice with pineapple and something (chicken? I don't recall). Yery yummy! Not as spicey as I always hope, but then, I want things to burn more often than they should, maybe.

Is that what those are?
