In KCMO, there are several main restaurant strips, The Plaza, West 39th, Southwest Blvd. There are also a few good ones Downtown, Crown Center and City Market. The Plaza is the best for upscale restaurants. Grand St Cafe is very comfortable - one of the best American Bistros according to mags. Houstons, Cheesecake Factory, Jules, Plaza III (great steakhouse), Starkers (formal), Classic Cup (mediteranian), JJ's (upscale) are all good Plaza restaurants. Many suggest KC Masterpiece for BBQ but the quality has been poor lately. Gates BBQ on Main in Midtown is OK but kinda salty, Winslows BBQ in City Market is good and unpretentious. Smokestack is the best but they're hard to find. Jakes BBQ off of the Plaza is pretty good and has a Western feel to it. West 39th has a variety of electic, funky and upscale restaurants. Cafe Allegro (upscale), Veco (upscale), DaBronx (excellent deli), Genghis Khan (mongolian), Blue Nile (ethiopian), Tribal Grill (humus), Otto's Malt Shop are all great places on 39th - there are great coffee houses and funky stores too. Southwest Blvd (southwest of Downtown) has many great authentic Mexican restaurants. Check out Margaritas, Blvd Cafe, Barcelona Cafe and Manny's. Ponaks, Red Headed Mexican, Case De Fajitas are also good. Downtown is going through major renovations in the next few years but is not much of a destination point yet. Midtown is where the action is. Nevertheless, Downtown/Crown Center/City Market has the Savoy Grill (formal), American Restaurant (4 star), Herford House (steak), Winslows (BBQ), Club 427 (jazz), Garazzos (good Italian), Le Fou Frog (french), Peppercorn Duck Club that are all worth it. The Plaza (around 47th) is the best place for tourists to go for activity. Westport (just north of Plaza) has many great bars, live music and a few good restaurants. In Westport, definitely check out Harry's and Kelly's. Uniquely KC? What's great about KC is its diversity. I'd have to say Harry's bar, Grand St. Cafe and Kelly's bar are uniquely KC - outside of the plethora of steak and bbq places. Plaza III for steak. Winslows, Jakes or Gates for BBQ. If you're into gambling, there are 5 casino's along the river. Nelson Museum is a top 10 US museum. The first major US jazz museum is on 18th & Vine east of Downtown. See www.experiencekc.com and www.kansascity.com for goings ons. If your going to be in the burbs, there are many good restaurants in Southern Johson County. going to Kansas City
Just ate at Le Fou Frog and it was wonderful! The Creme Brulee a la Lavande is a must as well as the rack of lamb and sea scallops.

Rich | E-mail: [email removed] Hi Nelson...2 of my favorites are Arthur Bryant's BBQ (nationally famous) and the Savoy Grill (as in Stompin' at the...) Great room, great steaks and seafood, great history!
